Biographical Information

Outfielder Jerry Owens was selected by the Montreal Expos in the second round of the 2003 amateur draft. He was signed by scout Tony Arango and made his pro debut that summer, playing two games for the Vermont Expos before sitting out the rest of the season with a hernia. He spent the next year with the Savannah Sand Gnats and hit .292 while swiping 30 bases.

In the spring of 2005, Owens was traded to the Chicago White Sox for Alex Escobar. That year with the Birmingham Barons, he hit .331 to capture the Southern League batting crown while stealing 38 bases. He spent most of the next season, 2006, with the Charlotte Knights, with whom he hit .262 with 40 stolen bases. After a stint on the disabled list with a sprained ankle, he was called up by the White Sox in September and hit .333 in a brief cup of coffee with the club in the heat of the pennant race. He began 2007 back at Charlotte and hit .284 with 23 stolen bases in 59 games there. He spent two stints in the majors with the Sox and was the team's regular centerfielder for most of the second half. He hit .267 and led all major league rookies with 32 steals.

In high school, Owens played football with NFL quarterback Kyle Boller. Owens went to UCLA to play receiver, but caught only one pass in two years. He transferred to The Master's College to focus on baseball, which he hadn't played since he was a sophomore in high school.

Owens became manager of the AZL Indians 2 in 2018-2019 and ACL Indians in 2021.
