Biographical information

Jerry Amador played five seasons in the minors. He is the brother of Chris Amador.

Jerry was picked by the Seattle Mariners in the fourth round of the 1998 amateur draft, the first position player they chose that year. He was also the first Puerto Rican drafted that year, regardless of team. He made his pro debut with the 1999 Everett AquaSox (.293/.379/.448 in 14 G) and Lancaster Jethawks (.270/.316/.378 in 19 G). He was then dealt with Andy Van Hekken to the Detroit Tigers as a player to be named later in exchange for Brian L. Hunter.

Amador hit .239/.324/.317 for the 2000 West Michigan Whitecaps, then .221/.271/.294 for the same club a year later. Back with the Seattle chain in 2002, he put up a .145/.188/.158 line in 20 games for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers.

Moving on to the independent leagues, Jerry batted .233/.276/.396 with 18 homers for the 2003 Pennsylvania Road Warriors. He tied for 11th in the Atlantic League in dingers.

In the 2006 Olympic qualifiers in the Americas, Amador was 3 for 4 with a double and a walk as a backup left fielder for the Puerto Rican national team. He was 3 for 16 with three walks in the 2006 Central American and Caribbean Games. He coached for Puerto Rico in the 2014 Central American and Caribbean Games.
