Biographical Information[edit]
First baseman Jeremy Schied played professionally from 1998 to 2000 and in 2002. An undrafted free agent, he began his career with the independent Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings, hitting .333/.467/.333 in 5 games. The Oakland Athletics signed him and he hit .283/.406/.398 with 4 home runs, 35 RBI and 38 walks (to 32 strikeouts) in 53 games for the AZL Athletics to finish out the year. He was second in the Arizona League in walks, behind Tony Cosentino's 39, and sacrifice flies (5, tied with Emmanuel Valdez, behind Rusty Keith's 6). In 1999, he hit .254/.351/.347 in 60 games for the Southern Oregon Timberjacks and in 2000, he hit .233/.377/.326 in 75 games for the Vancouver Canadians. After not playing in 2001, he returned with the independent Springfield/Ozark Mountain Ducks in 2002 to hit .264/.346/.342 in 93 games.
Overall, Schied hit .259/.368/.350 with 10 home runs, 144 RBI and 156 walks in 286 games.
He later became a scout for the Athletics, signing Travis Banwart, Travis Buck and Jeff Urlaub. He later became a scout for the Los Angeles Angels.
