Biographical Information[edit]
Jeison Guzmán has played in the minors and for the Dominican national team.
Guzmán was signed by Kansas City Royals scout Edis Perez in 2015. [1] He split 2016 between the DSL Royals (.171/.237/.229 in 9 G) and the AZL Royals (.261/.329/.378, 35 R in 45 G). He fielded .885 at short on the season. He tied Hudson Potts for 2nd in the Arizona League in runs, behind Khalil Lee. In 2017, he hit .207/.286/.249 for the Burlington Royals and improved his fielding percentage to .930.
Jeison split 2018 between Burlington (.283/.356/.368 in 25 G) and the Lexington Legends (.239/.312/.349 in 60 G). He was 0 for 1 that winter for the Leones del Escogido. His batting line for the 2019 Legends was .253/.296/.373, fielding .933. He led South Atlantic League shortstops in assists (317) and errors (33). [2]
He then played for the Dominican squad in the 2019 Premier 12. Starting at third base ahead of Elehuris Montero, he went 2 for 8 with a double, homer and a walk while handling six chances error-free. His dinger came off Franklin Van Gurp. [3]
He was added to the major league roster by the Royals on August 11, 2020, and was optioned on August 14, without appearing in a game.
