Biographical Information[edit]

James Wray pitched in the minor leagues and the CPBL.

Wray was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 21st round of the 1987 Amateur Draft after being a NCAA Division II All-American, but he refused to signed. The Los Angeles Dodgers then selected him in the 19th round of the 1988 Amateur Draft, and he was 5-2 with a 2.04 ERA for the Great Falls Dodgers in 1988. Wray had a solid 1.27 ERA in 41 appearances for the Bakersfield Dodgers in 1989, and he also recorded a 1.99 ERA in 17 games for the AA San Antonio Missions. He stayed in San Antonio in 1990, but his ERA rose to 3.71 in 45 games. Wray had a 3.48 ERA in 43 relief outings in 1991, and his ERA was 2.95 in 47 appearances with the Vero Beach Dodgers.

The China Times Eagles of the CPBL signed Wray in 1993, and he was 2-6 with a 3.70 ERA in his first year in Taiwan.[1] The Eagles moved him to the bullpen in 1994, and he had a 3.17 ERA in 40 games. He ranked 3rd in appearances, between Yi-Chuan Liu and Will Flynt. However, Wray allowed 6 runs in 3 1/3 innings in 1995, and he left Taiwan. He joined the Aberdeen Pheasants of the Prairie League in 1996, and he was 1-1 with a 5.76 ERA in 5 starts. Wray returned to Taiwan in 1998, but he allowed 21 runs in 15 1/3 innings with the Wei Chuan Dragons, then his professional career ended.[2]

Overall, Wray was 24-17 with a 2.77 ERA in 5 seasons in the minor leagues. He had a 8-10 record with a 4.07 ERA, struck out 127 in 208 innings in 4 seasons in the CPBL.
