Biographical Information[edit]
Outfielder James Ramsey was selected by the Minnesota Twins in the 22nd round of the 2011 amateur draft but did not sign. He was then taken by the St. Louis Cardinals in the first round of the 2012 amateur draft with the 23rd overall pick. Ramsey and 14th round pick Sherman Johnson had both started their last 200 straight games at Florida State University.
Ramsey soon signed for a $1.6 million bonus and made his pro debut for the Palm Beach Cardinals on July 2nd, going 3-for-5 with a double and a run scored. He hit .229 in 56 that first season, scoring 36 runs and going 10 for 12 in stole base attempts. In 2013, he started the year back in Palm Beach, but was promoted to the AA Texas League after 18 games of hitting .361. With the Springfield Cardinals, he hit .251 in 93 games with 15 homers and 44 RBI. He also played one game at AAA, with the Memphis Redbirds; his combined line was .265/.373/.440 in 112 games with 78 runs scored.
The Cardinals sent James back to Springfield in 2014, and he continued to show improvement, hitting .300 in 67 games, with 14 doubles and 13 triples. On July 30th, he was traded to the Cleveland Indians in return for P Justin Masterson.
Ramsey's father Craig was a captain on FSU's 1980 College World Series team.
