Biographical Information[edit]
Jim Morris was head baseball coach at the University of Miami from 1994-2018. The team has reached the College World Series 13 times during his tenure as coach, and they won the championship in 1999 and 2001. He was named Baseball America Coach of the Year in 1994 and Collegiate Baseball Coach of the Year in 1999 and again in 2001.
Prior to coming to Miami, he was head coach at DeKalb College from 1976 to 1979 and at Georgia Tech from 1982 to 1993. He also served stints as an assistant at Appalachian State University (1975) and Florida State University (1980-1981). He finished with a 1,593-715-4 record as head coach, fifth in NCAA Division I annals to that point.
He coached for Team USA in the 1987 Pan American Games and 1999 Pan American Games and managed Team USA in the 1990 Baseball World Cup and 1990 Goodwill Games.
Prior to beginning his coaching career, Morris played two seasons in the Boston Red Sox organization. He was inducted into the College Baseball Hall of Fame in 2020.
