Biographical Information[edit]

James Harris was the last first-round pick of 2011.

Harris went to the same high school as Rickey Henderson; like Henderson, he was an outfielder noted for speed. Harris was picked 60th overall in the 2011 amateur draft, taken by the Tampa Bay Rays. The choice was compensation for the loss of Chad Qualls to free agency. It was Tampa Bay's tenth first-rounder that year, following Taylor Guerrieri, Mikie Mahtook, Jake Hager, Brandon Martin, Tyler Goeddel, Jeff Ames, Blake Snell, Kes Carter and Grayson Garvin. Harris signed for a $490,000 bonus. He debuted on June 27, pinch-running against the GCL Red Sox.
