Biographical Information

Jack McKnight was a minor league pitcher for seven years, three of them in AAA.

Undrafted, McKnight originally signed with the Toronto Blue Jays. He had a 9-8, 3.24 record as a rookie with the 1981 Florence Blue Jays. In 1982, he was a strong starter for the Kinston Blue Jays, going 15-6 with a 3.44 ERA despite 87 walks in 167 2/3 IP. He tied Charlie Hudson for the Carolina League lead in wins but also tied Steve True for the most walks.

Jack moved up to the Knoxville Blue Jays in 1983 and went 8-12 with a save and a 4.13 ERA, walking 107 in 172 innings. He was two walks behind Southern League pacesetter Colin Ward. In 1984, he repeated at Knoxville and improved to 11-8, 3.81. Toronto then dealt him with Jim Gott and Augie Schmidt to the San Francisco Giants for Gary Lavelle. McKnight split 1985 between the Shreveport Captains (2-1, 1.66) and Phoenix Giants (8-4, 3.44). Back with Phoenix in 1986, the right-hander struggled at 6-12, 6.61. He ended up his career with Phoenix the next year, going only 2-2 with a 9.21 ERA to finish with a composite record of 61-53, 4.07.
