Biographical Information[edit]

Ishmael Abayaa pitched for the Ghanaian national team in the 1999 All Africa Games. His three appearances tied Charles Andam and Julius Yao Denyo for the team lead and his 6 2/3 IP were second to Andam's 10. In the opening loss to Lesotho, he relieved Joshua Amponsah in the 3rd and allowed 7 hits and five walks in two innings while giving up 8 earned runs and fanning four before Denyo replaced him. In game 2, he got the win over Uganda, relieving Paul Manoma in the 4th and working the final two frames of a mercy rule win (1 H, 4 BB, 1 ER, 5 K). He replaced Andam with a 5-4 deficit in the 4th inning of the finale against Nigeria and gave up 2 earned runs, 3 hits and 3 walks in 2 2/3 IP while striking out one before Henry Agyepong took over. His 10 strikeouts for the tourney led the team, 3 over Andam, and his one win tied Andam for the lead.

Abayaa later served as treasurer of the Ghana Baseball & Softball Association.
