Henry Agyepong (Heavy D)

Biographical Information[edit]

Henry Agyepong was on the Ghanaian national team in their first international tournament, the 1999 All Africa Games. He pinch-hit for Samuel Mawudeku in the opening 18-14 loss to Lesotho and apparently reached base (he had no at-bats so he was presumably walked) then Richard Kotey pinch-ran for him. He took over at first base for George Antwi in the 27-6 win over Uganda, going 0 for 1 with a RBI against Henry Odong. After a day off, he pitched the 4th inning against the powerful host South African national team, relieving Richmond Dogbe with a 21-3 deficit and allowed 5 hits, four walks and 7 runs in one frame; the game ended after 4 1/2 due to the mercy rule. In the finale against Nigeria, he relieved Ishmael Abayaa with two outs in the 6th and allowed one walk in 1/3 of an inning before Julius Denyo relieved him. His 47.25 ERA was Ghana's second-highest on the event; only Dogbe was higher.
