Charles Andam
Charles Andam was the workhorse of the Ghanaian national team in their first major tournament, the 1999 All Africa Games. He relieved Julius Denyo with a 16-12 deficit in the 6th of the opener against Lesotho and allowed one hit, two walks and two unearned runs while fanning two in one inning; Ghana lost a 18-14 contest that ended after the 6th. Two days later, he started against eventual Bronze Medal winner Zimbabwe and beat them (6 IP, 9 H, 1 BB, 4 K, 10 R, 5 ER); Denyo closed out the 24-10 win. After only a day off, he started the finale versus Nigeria, going 3 innings and allowing six hits, no walks and 5 runs (all earned) while striking out one before Ishmael Abayaa relieved. He took the loss in a 14-5 decision. For the event, he led in Ghana in starts (2) and IP (10), was second to Abayaa in strikeouts (10 to 7) and was third in ERA, behind Denyo (only 2 2/3 IP, 0.00) and Paul Manoma (only 3 IP, 3.00). His 9.00 ERA was 5.85 ahead of #4 Abayaa and 6.52 above the team average.
