Biographical Information[edit]

Il-kuen Hwang played for South Korea in the 1991 Asian Championship and 1991 Intercontinental Cup. In the latter event, he hit .219/.265/.500, five of his seven hits going for extra bases. He handled 20 chances error-free at third base. His homer off Kun-Yuan Chuo prevented a shutout in their loss to Taiwan and he also went deep off Italy's Claudio Taglienti.

The OB Bears selected him in the first round of the 1991 KBO draft, and he joined the team in 1993. Hwang hit .192/.288/.269 in his first season, then he went 6-for-28 in 1994. He stayed in the minors for the entire 1995 season, then he had a .185/.290/.272 batting line in 1996. Hwang was 5-for-30 in 1997, then he was released.

Overall, Hwang hit .189/.276/.256 with 48 hits in 4 seasons in the KBO.
