Biographical Information[edit]
Hyun-seung Park played in the Korea Baseball Organization for 13 years.
Park played for South Korea in the 1993 Asian Championship. The Lotte Giants selected him in the first round of the 1995 KBO draft, and he hit .221/.339/.316 in 48 games in his first season. Park then crushed 8 homers with a .288/.367/.435 batting line in 1996, and he improved to .301/.369/.522 with 19 homers in 1997. He missed the next season due to military service, and his batting line fell to .263/.351/.389 in 1999. He then hit .241/.340/.361 with 23 steals in 2000, and he was 5th in steals (tied with Min-ho Kim.
The Busan native collected 15 steals with a .288/.404/.391 batting line in 2001, and he was 4th in triples (4, 5 behind Soo-keun Jung). Park represented South Korea in the 2002 Intercontinental Cup, hitting .179/.343/.179 and fielding .970 as their starter at 2B. He then crushed 9 homers with a .260/.310/.382 batting line in 2002, and he hit .235/.279/.272 in 2003. He struggled in 2004 as his batting line fell to .219/.328/.281, so he mainly stayed in the minors in 2005; he was 8-for-38 with the big club. Park then recorded a .242/.324/.302 batting line in 2006, and he came back in 2007. In 91 games, he hit .325/.398/.401 with 3 homers, and he also had a 25-game hitting streak; that was the 4th longest streak in KBO history. However, he slumped to .218/.317/.267 in 2008, and he announced his retirement after spending the entire 2009 season in the minors. He coached the Giants from 2010 to 2015, and he was named the coach of Kyungnam High School in 2017.
Overall, Park hit .265/.348/.372 with 962 hits and 62 homers in 13 seasons in the KBO.
