Biographical Information[edit]
Huguiyoski Sugeta was a top pitcher in Brazil, winning Pitcher of the Year honors in 1958, 1959, 1963, 1963 and 1971. He was on the Brazilian national team in the 1959 Pan American Games and 1963 Pan American Games and on South American champion teams in 1961 (Silver Medal), 1963, 1968 and 1970. He coached from 1984-1994. His family was involved in baseball for at least three generations - his father Takeshi had been a coach in Brazil (managing Brazil's national team), his brothers Mitsutoshi, Yukio, Geraldo, Mario and Yoshio all played baseball and his sons Eduardo, Fabio and Silvio all played. He apparently had an offer from a Japanese team when he was 18 but he opted to remain in Brazil. He spent his professional career in agriculture.
