Biographical Information[edit]

Hsiu-Yen Kuo has played in the CPBL for 4 years.

Kuo served in Taiwan's Marines after high school. He was picked by the Lamigo Monkeys in the 4th round of the 2012 CPBL Draft. He was a teammate of his brother Yong-Wei Kuo with Lamigo in 2013, the fourth set of brother teammates in CPBL history. He struck out against Tyler Lumsden in his first at-bat, got his first hit off En-Yu Lin and his first homer off Chen-Hua Lin. He batted .314/.342/.368 in 60 games, fielding .950 at SS (36 G) and .935 at 2B (25 G). He would have tied Yung-Chi Chen for 7th in the league in average had he qualified. He won Rookie of the Year for his efforts.

However, Kuo couldn't maintain his solid batting, and he only hit .204/.275/.215 in 2014. The Monkeys had plenty of talented infielders, so he only played 27 games with a .279/.383/.338 batting line in 2015. He was 3-for-9 in the 2015 Taiwan Series, and he won his first Taiwan Series title as the Monkeys beat the CTBC Brothers in 7 games. He still didn't get many chances in 2016, and he only played 28 games with a .295/.371/.426 batting line. On February 28, 2017, Kuo was drunk and he tried to break into a woman's house. He was arrested, and the Monkeys released him. Some reports said that he committed suicide, but it was never confirmed.

Overall, Kuo hit .282/.339/.338 with 120 hits in 4 seasons in the CPBL.
