Biography

Pitcher Tyler Lumsden was originally selected by the Florida Marlins in the fifth round of the 2001 amateur draft but did not sign. The left-hander enrolled at Clemson University, and went 4-1 with two saves and a 5.28 ERA. He fanned 63 in 58 innings, but walked 39 and allowed 56 hits. Lumsden improved to 8-2, 3.77 the next year, and cut his walk total to 31 in 86 innings. As a junior, he went 5-4 with a 3.98 ERA, 88 Ks in 81 innings and 37 walks.

Despite an unimpressive collegiate career, Lumsden was taken in the first round of the 2004 amateur draft by the Chicago White Sox with the 34th overall pick. He was signed by scout Nick Hostetler and made his pro debut that season with the Winston-Salem Warthogs, and went 3-1 with a 4.12 ERA, allowing 65 baserunners in 39 innings.

He missed the entire 2005 season due to elbow surgery, but bounced back in 2006, going 9-4 with a 2.69 ERA for the AA Birmingham Barons. The White Sox traded Lumsden and Daniel Cortes to the Kansas City Royals in July of 2006 for Mike MacDougal. He finished out the season with the Wichita Wranglers, going 2-1 with a 3.06 ERA in 7 games.

Lumsden was promoted to Omaha in 2007. His record was 9-6 in 25 games, but the ERA was a robust 5.88. He surrendered 141 hits in 119 1/3 innings pitched.

In late April 2011, Lumsden was signed by the President Lions. He debuted on May 6, allowing five runs (one earned) in a loss to the Sinon Bulls and Chien-Fu Yang.
