Biographical Information[edit]

Homer Baez played in the minors and in Spain, as well as for the Venezuelan national team.

Signed by the Pittsburgh Pirates, he was 4-1 with a 1.86 ERA for the 1993 DSL Pirates and 2-6 with a 6.18 ERA for them in '94. [1] He was on the Venezuelan squad for the 2002 Intercontinental Cup. He was 1-0 despite a 11.57 ERA; he relieved Luis Romero in the 7th with a 6-6 tie against the Netherlands and retired Percy Isenia to end the inning. When Venezuela scored off Dave Draijer in the 8th, he got credit for the win despite facing one batter; Abel Granadillo closed it out. [2]

Spanish stats are unavailable prior to 2008; in 2008, he won 11 games with a 1.12 ERA; he was second in the Division Honor in ERA (.12 behind Leslie Nacar) and trailed Iván Granados by one for the win lead. [3] In the 2008 European Cup, he was 2-0 with a 3.58 ERA in round one, beating Nettuno twice; he topped Carlos Pezzullo and Massimiliano Masin. He tied Evan Blesoff for 4th in the event in K (10) and tied Samuel Meurant and Jurjen van Zijl for the most wins. [4] In the final four, he lost a 2-1 duel to Horacio Estrada of T&A San Marino. He led the final phase in strikeouts with 11, four ahead of Victor Arias. [5]

In 2009, he won 13 to tie Granados for 3rd in Spain. [6] In the 2009 European Cup, he threw a complete game four-hitter with 13 strikeouts to beat Draci Brno and former major leaguer Pat Ahearne. Only Meurant pitched more innings and he tied Meurant for the most K. [7]
