Biographical Information[edit]

Hiroaki Onishi played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 8 years.

Onishi was drafted by the Kintetsu Buffaloes in the 7th round of the 2002 NPB draft, and he spent his first season in the NPB Farm Leagues. He hit .265/.343/.430 in 103 games in 2004, and he had a .241/.314/.358 batting line in 2005 after the Buffaloes merged with the Orix BlueWave to become the Orix Buffaloes. Onishi hit .272/.328/.391 with 7 steals in 2006, then he recorded a .247/.313/.335 batting line in 2007.

Orix traded him to the Yokohama BayStars for Katsuaki Furuki, and he played 105 games with a .270/.347/.381 batting line in 2008. Onishi slumped to .141/.191/.203 in 2009, then he hit .302/.412/.326 in 36 games in 2010. He was released after that season, and the Softbank Hawks signed him. However, Onishi stayed in the minors for the entire 2011, then he announced his retirement. He later became the manager of the Sakai Shrikes in the Kansai Independent Baseball League in 2019.

Overall, Onishi hit .254/.327/.369 with 319 hits and 27 homers in 8 seasons in NPB.
