Biographical Information

Harvey García was signed by scouts Miguel Garcia and Louie Eljaua for the Florida Marlins in 2000. He made his pro debut for Ciudad Alianza (VSL) in 2001. The Marlins sent him to San Joaquin (VSL) in 2002, but released him after 4 games. The Boston Red Sox signed him and sent him back to Ciudad Alianza for the rest of the season. He played for the DSL Red Sox 2 in 2003 and came stateside with the GCL Red Sox the same year.

His lone major league action came with Florida in 2007, going 0-1 with a 4.38 ERA in 8 games as a September call-up, striking out 15 in 12 1/3 IP. The Marlins had re-acquired him after the 2005 season in the trade that sent Hanley Ramirez and Anibal Sanchez to Boston. He hung around in the minors through 2010 and kept pitching in the Venezuelan Winter League through 2016.

In 2016, he became the first ex-major leaguer to play in the French Division I (Jeff Zimmerman had played there on his way to the majors). He was 6-3 with a 1.66 ERA and 118 K in 92 IP, allowing a .147 average for the Tigers de Toulouse. He finished 4th in ERA, allowed the lowest average (.013 ahead of Owen Ozanich), led in strikeouts and was sixth in wins.

The next year, he moved to the newly-promoted Ducks Saint-Just Saint-Rambert and fell to 2-7, 5.30 though he did fan 99 in 71 1/3 IP. He was 9th in opponent average but again led in Ks while placing 4th in losses. He moved to his third French team in 2018, the Paris Université Club. He had a 2-5, 3.75 record for them, falling to 6th with 54 strikeouts and tying for 3rd in losses with Frank Mata (another ex-big leaguer) and Nicolas Antoine.

García was 3-1 with a 2.08 ERA in limited activity for Paris in 2019.
