Biographical Information

Harold Kollar played in the minor leagues in 1942 and from 1946 to 1954. He was the all-star first baseman in the 1947 Tri-State League, 1949-1950 Western Association and presumably would have been in the 1952 Appalachian League. Kollar led the 1952 Appy with 112 runs, 112 RBI, and 21 HR, while also hitting .353. At the time the Tar Heel League disbanded in 1954, Kollar was tied for the league lead with 5 homers. Overall, he hit .297 with 102 home runs in 1,087 games.

In 1947, he led the Knoxville Smokies in games played, hits, batting average and total bases, also topping the Tri-State League in games. He led the Jacksonville Tars and the South Atlantic League in games in 1948 and in 1949, he topped the Fort Smith Giants in home runs. In 1950, he led the Enid Giants in home runs and in 1951, he tied for the St. Cloud Rox team lead in home runs. He led the Kingsport Cherokees in games, hits, home runs and batting average in 1952, also topping the Appalachian League in games and home runs. He led the Muskogee Giants in doubles in 1953.

He was stationed at the Vance Bomber Base in Enid, Oklahoma during the Korean War.

He also signed on to serve as the head coach of Drexel University's basketball team in 1949, who whom he played center. He made the All-Middle Atlantic Conference Team, as decided by The Associated Press, in 1947.

Kollar outhomered Mickey Mantle when they played in the WA together in 1950, 27-26. Butch Nieman edged Kollar for the home run crown that year as Nieman clubbed 28.
