Biographical Information[edit]
Gyun-an Na played in the KBO and for the South Korea national baseball team.
Na represented South Korea in the 2015 BFA U-18 Baseball Championship. He was drafted by the Lotte Giants in the second round of the 2017 KBO draft, and he mainly stayed in the minors in his first season. He hit .124/.201/.175 in 2018, and he struggled again as he only had a .124/.188/.195 batting line in 2019 as Lotte's main starting catcher. Na was turned into a pitcher in 2020, and he stayed in the minors for the entire '20 season; he had a 2.70 ERA in 30 innings there. He joined Lotte's bullpen in 2021, and he ended up having a 6.41 ERA in 23 appearances. He then joined the rotation in 2022, and he was 3-8 with a 3.98 ERA.
The Changwon native improved to 6-8 with a 3.80 ERA in 2023, and he represented South Korea in the 2022 Asian Games (held in 2023 due to delays from COVID-19). He started against Thailand, and he struck out 9 in 4 shutout innings to beat Phoomwut Wutthikorn. Korea beat Chinese Taipei to win Gold. That earned him an exemption from South Korea's normally required military service. However, Na struggled in 2024 with the juiced ball, and his ERA rose to 8.51 in 26 games with a 4-7 record. What's worse, it was reported that Na was drunk before starting on June 25, and he allowed 8 runs in 1 2/3 innings in that game. The team suspended him for 30 games.
Na's repertoire included a fastball (peak 94.4 mph), curveball, slider and forkball.
