Gulf Star Conference
The Gulf Star Conference was a college conference in Texas and Louisiana for 3 years from the 1984-1985 school year until 1986-1987. There was a consistent six school lineup, and it was a mix of NCAA Division I and Division II schools, although all schools would be D-I at the end of the conference's run as Sam Houston State made the D-II playoffs in 1985-1986 and the D-I field in 1987.
In 1988 Nicholls State and Southeastern Louisiana would become Independents, while Southwest Texas State, Sam Houston State, Stephen F. Austin State, and Northwestern State would all join the Southland Conference. From 1997-1998 to 2011-2012 all six schools would be reunited in the Southland.
