Biographical Information[edit]

Greg Romo pitched in the minor leagues and the TML.

Romo was drafted by the California Angels in the 11th round of the 1993 Amateur Draft out of high school, but he refused to sign, opting for college. The Detroit Tigers then took him in the 25th round of the 1994 Amateur Draft, was 3-1 with a 2.63 ERA for the GCL Tigers in his first year. Romo’s ERA was 1.57 in 8 games in GCL in 1996, and he also went 4-2 with a 2.35 ERA for the Jamestown Jammers; he walked only 10 in 60 1/3 IP that season. He improved to 12-6 with a 3.54 ERA for the West Michigan Whitecaps in 1997, tying Tommy Darrell and Allen Sanders for 6th in the Midwest League in wins and finishing 5th in the Tigers chain in that department.

He had a 7-4 record with a 2.92 ERA in 16 starts for West Michigan in 1998. Romo also started 12 games for the Lakeland Tigers, and his ERA was 4.01, going 5-5. He was 4th among Tigers minor leaguers in wins, between Dave Darwin and Mark Persails. His 158 K were second, though 44 behind leader Alan Webb. He had a 8-4 record with a 3.49 ERA in Lakeland in 1999, but he slumped to 2-2 with a 8.27 ERA for the Jacksonville Suns. He tied Sean Buller for 5th-most wins by a Tigers farmhand. The Memphis Redbirds took him in the minor league portion of the 1999 Rule V Draft but he never appeared for them. Romo left the Tigers system after that season, and he was 2-1 with a 5.40 ERA for the Chico Heat while having a 7.08 ERA in 9 games for the Feather River Mudcats. The Taipei Gida signed him in 2001, but Romo had a 14.54 ERA in 4 games, and his professional career ended.

The Californian was 46-29 with four saves and a 3.80 ERA in 124 games in the US pro ranks.
