Biographical Information[edit]
Gil Stafford was a longtime college coach, who led Grand Canyon University to three NAIA College World Series titles.
A catcher, Stafford was selected by the Houston Astros in the 17th round of the 1971 amateur draft and played two summers in their organization. Following three seasons in the Milwaukee Brewers chain, he spent several years as a high school teacher in Coolidge, Arizona. He became head baseball coach at Grand Canyon University in 1981 and held that postion for twenty seasons, leading the school to NAIA College World Series victories in 1981, 1982, and 1986. He took over as the school's president in 2000 and later became an Episcopal priest.
