Biographical Information[edit]

George Lerchen was an outfielder for 12 years (1942-1956), two in the Major Leagues (1952-1953) and 12 in the minors (1941-1942 and 1946-1956), losing three years to the military. He served in the United States Navy during World War II (1943-1945) (GB).

Lerchen was born on December 1, 1922, in Detroit, MI. He was signed by Wish Egan of the Detroit Tigers as an amateur free agent in 1942. He was 29 years old when he broke into the big leagues on April 15, 1952, with the Tigers. He had cups of coffee with the Tigers (1952) and the Cincinnati Redlegs (1953) and hit 118 home runs in the minors.
