Biographical Information[edit]
Although Wish Egan played only three years in the majors, he became an outstanding scout (one source called him a "legendary scout") for the Detroit Tigers for over forty years. He is credited with signing Hall of Famer Hal Newhouser, Hoot Evers, and Dizzy Trout along with many other major league players. He also scouted George Kell and was instrumental in acquiring him from the Philadelphia Athletics in 1946.
Wish Egan Playfield, at Schoenherr St. and State Fair St. in Detroit is named for him.
