Biographical Information[edit]
Gene Sylvester pitched in the minor leagues in 1943, from 1946 to 1947 and from 1949 to 1951. He spent the majority of his career in the Border League, spending five years there. He played for the Interstate League's Wilmington Blue Rocks (1943), the North Carolina State League's Statesville Cubs (1946), the Tri-State League's Shelby Cubs (1946), the the Border League's Ottawa Nationals/Ottawa Senators (1947, 1949-1950), the Border League's Geneva Robins (1950) and the Border League's Cornwall Canadians (1951).
He was 12-8 with a 3.68 ERA in 28 games for Ottawa in 1947 and 14-11 with a 3.50 ERA in 31 games for the club in 1949. Overall, he was 45-41 in 108 games over six seasons.
He served in he U.S. Army during World War II and participated in the Normandy D-Day invasion.
