Biographical Information[edit]

Gene Bennett was a longtime figure in the Cincinnati Reds system.

He played in their minor league chain with two clubs in 1953, before joining the Daytona Beach Islanders (affiliated with the Cleveland Indians and St. Louis Cardinals) from 1955 to 1957. Overall, the infielder hit .284 with 25 home runs in 514 games.

He later became a scout for the Reds, signing among others Barry Larkin, Paul O'Neill, Chris Sabo, Don Gullett, Charlie Leibrandt and Jeff Russell. Later in his career, he moved to the front office, serving as Senior Special Assistant to the General Manager.
