Biographical Information[edit]

Gary Wilson was in six games with the Houston Astros, early in the 1979 season. Gary also pitched seven seasons in the minors.

Wilson is one of two big leaguers born in Camden, AR, with the other (through 2021) being Jonathan Davis. Gary was at Southern Arkansas University during 1973-1975, with the only other big leaguer from there being Charlie Brewster. Wilson was then drafted second overall in the January 1976 amateur draft by the Astros.

Although Gary pitched in relief in the majors, he was primarily a starter in the minors. He was 10-12 in 1976, 13-11 in 1977, and 14-7 in 1978 as he moved up the system. After his time in the majors in early 1979, he was back in the minors with the Charleston Charlies and then went 12-9 in 1980 with the Tucson Toros.

The 1981 season found him in the Texas Rangers organization, pitching mostly relief with the Wichita Aeros. In 1982, his last pro season, he was with three teams in the Toronto Blue Jays organization.

He is not to be confused with an earlier Gary Wilson, an infielder, or a later Gary Wilson, also a pitcher. The latter Gary Wilson was from California, while this Gary Wilson was from Arkansas.
