Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Gabriel Arias began his professional career in 2007 at 17 years old. He was signed by the Philadelphia Phillies on July 24, 2007. The scout was Wilfredo Tejada.

He pitched for the DSL Phillies from 2007 to 2010. In 2007, he had a 0.00 ERA in four relief appearances. The next year, his mark was 2.63 in 17 games and in 2009, it was 2.29 in 17 games (nine starts). He had a 1.22 ERA in 14 games (10 starts) for the club in 2010.

Moving stateside in 2011, Arias had a 2.97 ERA in 24 relief appearances for the Williamsport Crosscutters and earned New York-Penn League Mid-Season All-Star honors. Between the Lakewood BlueClaws and Clearwater Threshers in 2012, Arias was 4-10 with a 3.65 ERA in 37 games (eight starts), striking out 106 batters in 101 frames. With the Threshers in 2013, he was 6-2 with a 2.47 ERA in 12 games (seven starts) to earn Florida State League Mid-Season All-Star honors.

The Phillies let him walk following the season and he was signed by the Cleveland Indians on December 19, 2013. In 27 games (25 starts) for the Akron Aeros and Triple-A Columbus Clippers in 2014, he was 14-6 with a 3.68 ERA. In his first taste of Triple-A, he was 7-4 with a 4.16 ERA in 15 games (13 starts).

He became a free agent following the 2014 season and signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks on December 6. He began 2015 with the Mobile BayBears but was promoted to the Triple-A Reno Aces after posting a 1.54 mark in five starts with the former squad. He fell to 5-4, 6.22 with Reno. He pitched briefly in 2017 with the Syracuse Chiefs then moved to the Mexican League in 2018.

In the 2019 Pan American Games Qualifying Tournament, he posted a 1.93 ERA in three appearances as the Dominicans won the event and a spot in the 2019 Pan American Games. He was 8th in ERA, between Leuris Gómez and Dustin Molleken.
