Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Gabe Ribas played six seasons in the minors. Since then, he has been an assistant coach at several colleges.

Ribas played college ball at Northwestern University, going 21-22 with 288 strikeouts during his career. He was selected by the San Diego Padres in the 14th round of the 2002 amateur draft and made his pro debut that summer with the Eugene Emeralds, going 8-1 with a 1.97 ERA and 16 saves. He split the following summer between the Fort Wayne Wizards and Lake Elsinore Storm, winning 17 games in 28 starts between the two clubs. He played one more year in the Padres organization and spent part of 2005 with the Clearwater Threshers in the Philadelphia Phillies chain.

Ribas played for the Capitales de Québec of the independent Can-Am League from 2005 to 2007. He went 10-3 with a 2.84 ERA in 20 starts in 2006 and was the league's right-handed pitcher of the year. He was chosen as a member of the tenth anniversary Capitales team in 2008. He joined the Brantford Red Sox in the Intercounty Baseball League that year and would help the club win the IBL Championship by winning half of the 12 games in the playoffs.

Following his playing days, Ribas was an assistant coach at his alma mater, Northwestern, in 2008 and 2009. In 2010, he was on the staff at the College of the Holy Cross, and he was a coach at the University of Northern Colorado the following year. After the 2011 season, he joined Santa Clara University as pitching coach.
