Biographical Information[edit]

Frank Carswell played two months with the Detroit Tigers as a 33 year old rookie in 1953. He hit .267 with a .389 OBP, drawing 3 walks in 16 games. Additionally, he played basketball in the NBL, predecessor of the NBA. Carswell played 14 years with distinction in the minors, hitting .337 with over 200 home runs. He led the 1949 Big State League with 229 hits and 145 RBI. In 1950, he led the same league with 51 doubles and a .400 average. In 1952, he missed the triple crown in the International League by 12 RBI, leading the league with 30 home runs and a .344 average. In 2010, he was inducted into the International League Hall of Fame.
