Biographical Information[edit]
Frank Álvarez has pitched in Cuba and Japan and for the Cuban national team.
He debuted for the Vegueros de Pinar del Río in 2018-2019, going 1-1 with a save and a 2.76 ERA. He fell to 1-0, 8.05 in 2019-2020 but rebounded to 1-3, 4.47 in 2020-2021.
Making Cuba's squad for the 2021 Americas Olympic Qualifier, he closed out a 16-3 rout of Colombia in his lone appearance. Relieving Yudier Rodríguez, he allowed a single to Carlos Martinez, struck out Gustavo Campero and allowed a Jerry Downs RBI double and Brallan Pérez single. He got Jonathan Lozada to line out then retired Andrés Angulo to end it. [1] In the 2021 U-23 Baseball World Cup, he had a 5.25 ERA in three outings. [2]
Signing with Japan's Chunichi Dragons, he pitched seven games in the minor Western League in 2022, allowing three runs in eight innings. He was 1-0 with 4 2/3 shutout innings in the 2022 U-23 Baseball World Cup, beating Mexico. [3] He then made Cuba's entry for the 2023 World Baseball Classic. [4]
