Francisco Fletes Silva (El Americano)
Biographical Information[edit]
Francisco Fletes was considered the top shortstop in Nicaragua before Rigoberto Mena. Fletes played for the Nicaraguan national team in eight Amateur World Series - only Stanley Cayasso appeared in more. Fletes debuted with Nicaragua in the 1941 Amateur World Series and also played for them in the 1944 Amateur World Series, 1945 Amateur World Series, 1947 Amateur World Series (Bronze Medal), 1948 Amateur World Series, 1950 Central American and Caribbean Games, 1951 Pan American Games, 1952 Amateur World Series and 1953 Amateur World Series. His son Francisco Fletes Jr. played for Nicaragua only 7 years after Fletes Sr.'s last appearance. In 1997, he was inducted into the Nicaraguan Sports Hall of Fame.
