1945 Amateur World Series

The 1945 Amateur World Series was one of the least competitive ever. The 8th Amateur World Series, it was the second in a row held in Caracas, Venezuela. Due to the biased umpiring debacle of the 1944 Amateur World Series, the powerful Cuban national team and another Medalist from 1944, Mexico stayed home. That left the field open for the hometown team as Venezuela went 10-0 to win it.

 Venezuela had almost every statistical leader. MVP Hector Benitez hit .526 with 16 runs and 16 RBI, all figures leading the tourney. Luis Romero Petit swiped 9 bases to lead in that area while Ramon Fernandez led with a then-record 21 hits. Luis Zuloaga went 4-0 as the top pitcher.

 Colombia had its first Medal in an Amateur World Series thanks to the depleted field, going 7-3 for a Silver Medal.

 Panama won Bronze at 6-4. Leon Kellman led the competition with two home runs. It would be 58 years until Panama again won a Medal in the event, when it claimed Silver in the 2003 Baseball World Cup (the Series having been renamed in the 1980s).

 Nicaragua, a former Silver Medalist, placed 4th at 5-5.

 El Salvador and  Costa Rica tied for last at 1-9.
