Fernando Quijada pitched in the minors.

Quijada debuted in 2002 in the Venezuelan Summer League, going 2-3 with a 2.48 ERA for Mariara; his ERA was only .05 behind Yusmeiro Petit. He was 2-4 with 3 saves and a 6.23 ERA for the 2003 GCL Phillies. He pitched for Tronconero 1 in 2004. He was 1-1 with a 8.64 ERA for the Navegantes del Magallanes in the 2004-2005 Venezuelan Winter League. In 2005, he went 2-3 with 8 saves and a 4.13 ERA for the Batavia Muckdogs, fanning 39 in 32 2/3 IP. He tied Blake Owen and Jose Guanchez for 6th in the New York-Penn League in saves. He walked four and allowed one run in 1 2/3 IP for the 2005-2006 Tiburones de La Guaira.

The Baltimore Orioles took him in the AA portion of the 2005 Rule V Draft. He was 2-1 with a 3.08 ERA in 30 outings for the 2006 Delmarva Shorebirds to end his US career. He tossed 2 1/3 shutout innings for the 2007-2008 Tiburones, had a 5.40 ERA in nine games for them in 2008-2009 and allowed three runs in four innings for the club in 2009-2010. In 2008, he was 4-0 with three saves and a 1.26 ERA and .159 opponent average for CB Sant Boi in Spain's Division de Honor. He fanned 55 in 35 2/3 IP and allowed only 18 hits and 8 walks. He tied for the league lead in saves, was second to Leslie Nacar in opponent average and tied Renny Duarte for third in ERA (behind Nacar and Homer Baez).

Quijada tossed three innings for the Venezuelan national team in the 2013 Bolivarian Games, allowing one hit and fanning two for a save to wrap up Alexis Fumero's win over the Peruvian national team. Venezuela got the Silver Medal.
