José Guanchez pitched for several seasons in the minor leagues.

Guanchez had a strong pro debut in 2000 with San Joaquin in the Venezuelan Summer League, going 5-2 with a 1.39 ERA; had he qualified, he would have led the league in ERA. In 2001, he fell to 4-6, 4.36 for San Joaquin. The next year, José had a 3-3, 4.19 record for Ciudad Alianza.

Coming stateside in 2003, Guanchez went 5-0 with 8 saves and a 1.95 ERA for the GCL Red Sox despite over a hit per inning.
