Biographical Information[edit]

Alexis Fumero has pitched in the minor leagues and Spain and for the Venezuelan national team.

With the DSL Diamondbacks in 2006, he gave up 14 hits, 5 walks and 12 runs (8 earned) in 9 innings over 7 games, with no decisions. He went to Spain in 2008 to play for CD Pamplona, going 1-10 with a 6.37 ERA and 48 walks in 79 1/3 innings. He was used regularly as a middle infielder, fielding .929, and hit .264/.369/.333. He led the Spanish Division de Honor in hit batsmen (12), wild pitches (15) and balks (3, tied) while placing second to Norman Cowes in losses.

In 2009, he was much better both at the plate (.361/.421/.516) and on the mound (4-9, 4.70). He was 7th in slugging (between Oscar Angulo and Kelvin Marianucci), tied for second in triples (4), 9th in batters whiffed (83), tied for 4th in games pitched (17), first in losses, second in wild pitches (17) and tied for third with 11 hit batters. He did not play in the Division de Honor in 2010. In 2011, he batted .333/.400/.500 and had a 5-12, 2.69 record and .949 fielding percentage. He was second in innings pitched (124, behind Carlos Amaro), 5th in strikeouts (115), tied for first in appearances (17), led in losses again (two over Alberto Magallón) and hit the most batsmen (14).

Fumero batted .405/.473/.671 with 26 RBI in 34 games in 2012 and had a 6-8, 2.96 record. He tied for 7th in home runs (4) and would have been 4th in slugging and 6th in average had he qualified. On the mound, he was 8th in ERA, 5th in innings, 7th in strikeouts, tied for 10th in wins, tied for 6th in losses and second with 17 hit batters. With Pamplona in 2013, he hit .284, fielded .965 and went 5-7 with a 1.65 ERA. He was 4th in the league in ERA (between Lowuin Sacramento and Zael Honora), second in innings (119 2/3, behind Elys Montano), 8th in whiffs (105, between Honora and Jorge Balboa) and third in losses. He dominated Peru in his lone outing in the 2013 Bolivarian Games, holding them to one hit and one walk in six shutout innings; Venezuela earned a Silver Medal.

In 2014, Fumero slumped to .176/.292/.231 at the plate and 5-11, 4.56 on the hill. He was second to Honora in innings (122 1/3), tied for 5th with 103 strikeouts, was second in losses and tied for first with four balks. He started Venezuela's game against Guatemala in the 2014 Central American and Caribbean Games but gave up a two-run homer to Manuel Hernández in the first and left with a 2-1 deficit after 2 1/3 IP, replaced by Josmar Carreño. Venezuela rallied for a 4-2 win.
