Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Eury Pérez reached the majors with the Washington Nationals in 2012.

Pérez was signed by scout Moises de la Mota and scouting director Dana Brown for the Washington Nationals in April 2007. He debuted that year with the DSL Nationals 1, hitting .253/.399/.297 with 32 walks and 41 runs in 51 games. With the same club in 2008, he improved to .324/.428/.441 with 28 steals in 34 tries and 51 runs in 60 games. He was 5th in the Dominican Summer League in average.

Coming stateside in 2009, Eury was even better, posting a .381/.443/.503 line for the GCL Nationals. He led the Gulf Coast League in average (by .048), OBP and hits (69) and finished with a 27-game hitting streak. He did not make an error in the outfield. He won GCL MVP honors. Baseball America rated him the league's #14 prospect, right ahead of Brooks Pounders. They also ranked him Washington's 11th-best prospect.

Eury began 2010 with the Hagerstown Suns; despite an unimpressive start (.254/.296/.314 in 71 G), he made the World team for the 2010 Futures Game. He ended the summer with a .299 average and a South Atlantic League-leading 64 stolen bases. With the Potomac Nationals the following year, he hit .283 with 45 steals (second in the Carolina League to Jeff Kobernus).
