Biographical Information[edit]

Ernie Nieves pitched in the minor leagues and the CPBL.

Nieves was signed by the Cincinnati Reds, and he was 0-3 with a 2.27 ERA for the GCL Reds in 1989. He was 2-0 with a 4.20 ERA for the Billings Mustangs in 1990, and he also pitched 20 games with a 3.20 ERA for the Charleston Wheelers. Nieves then went 6-1 with a 3.90 ERA in Charleston in 1991, and he was 11-6 with a 3.74 ERA in 37 relief outings in 1992. He went to the California Angels in 1994, and he was 1-3 with a 4.31 ERA for the Lake Elsinore Storm. Nieves then pitched 6 games for the Midland Angels in 1995, and his ERA was 4.05.

The Saskatoon Smokin' Guns signed him in 1997, and Nieves went 10-1 with a 2.45 ERA for them. He went 9-3 with a 3.01 ERA for the Bridgeport Bluefish in 1998, and he also pitched one game for the Uni-President Lions. Nieves stayed in Taiwan in 1999, and he had a 3.94 ERA in 10 appearances. He left Taiwan in July, and he went 2-2 with a 4.70 ERA in Bridgeport. His ERA was 5.86 in 7 games for the Bluefish in 2000, and he also pitched 37 games with a 5.03 ERA for the Lehigh Valley Black Diamonds. Nieves was 0-1 with a 2.79 ERA for the Albany-Colonie Diamond Dogs in 2001, then he announced his retirement.
