Ernesto Roberto Espinoza

Roberto Espinoza played in the minor leagues from 1979-1982 and has coached in the minors. He is the brother of major leaguer Álvaro Espinoza.
Espinoza started out as a catcher, but only was 2 for 25 with a walk and 8 stikeouts for the 1979 GCL Astros. In 1980, he became a pitcher and went 4-4 with a 6.39 ERA, walking 41 in 38 innings and tossing 8 wild pitches. Roberto was with the 1981 GCL Astros Orange, going 2-3 with a 5.11 ERA and issuing 33 free passes in 37 innings pitched. In 1982, the Venezuelan hurler spent time with the GCL Astros (3-9, 4.83, down to 35 BB in 78 1/3 IP) and the Asheville Tourists (1-1, 6.88, 19 BB in 34 IP).
After retiring as a player, Espinoza returned to baseball as a coach for the 1989 Kinston Indians. He was a baserunning and outfield instructor in the Cleveland Indians system in 1990. He was bullpen coach for the Magallanes Navigators of Venezuela from 1993-1995. In 1995, he was also baserunning coordinator for the Chicago White Sox system and pitching coach at the White Sox Academy in Venezuela. In 1996, he was hitting coach for the GCL White Sox. He was pitching coach for the 1998 Tucson Sidewinders. Espinoza was pitching coach for the Bristol Sox from 2005-2007. He has also scouted for the White Sox for 9 seasons (through 2007). He signed Gustavo Molina.
Espinoza coached for Venezuela in the 2006 World Baseball Classic, 2009 World Baseball Classic and 2009 Baseball World Cup. He managed the EDA Rhinos in the 2015 CPBL.
