Erick Arteaga began his career in the 2000 Venezuelan Summer League, going 4-0 with a 0.83 ERA for La Victoria, helping his team to a title; had he qualified, he would have led the VSL in ERA. In 2001, Arteaga was 4-1 with a 3.63 ERA for the GCL Phillies with only 7 walks in 52 innings.

Arteaga was 3-1 with a 2.79 ERA for the 2002 Batavia Muckdogs, holding opponents to a .211 average. He was presumably injured in 2003 as he did not pitch that year. In 2004, Erick was 10-9 with a 4.81 ERA for the Lakewood BlueClaws. He led the team in wins but his 207 hits allowed led the New York-Penn League; he gave up a .323 average. The positive was control as he walked 21 in 159 innings.

Arteaga moved to a relief role in large part with the 2005 Clearwater Threshers. For the season, he was 2-4 with two saves and a 5.91 ERA in 32 games, allowing a .321 average. That ended his career in the minor leagues.

The tall right-hander was with the Venezuelan national team in the 2007 Baseball World Cup. He tossed a shutout relief inning against Germany. In his next outing, he gave up 2 runs in 3 2/3 innings to take the loss against the Australian national team. He also allowed a run in an inning versus Team Canada. Overall, he was 0-1 with a 4.76 ERA for the event. He was 8-6 with a 2.55 ERA for San Inazio Bilbao in the Spanish Division de Honor in 2008. He led the league with 120 IP, tied Iván Granados for the most complete games (6), was second in strikeouts (16 behind Granados) and 5th in wins but did not make the top 10 in ERA.

In the 2009 Caribbean Series, Arteaga had a 4.91 ERA in two outings for the Tigres de Aragua, who won the title.

Arteaga helped Venezuela take Gold at the 2010 South American Games.
