Biographical Information[edit]

Relief pitcher Eric Marzec pitched in the minor leagues from 2010 to 2015.

Amateur Career[edit]

He had a 6-1, 1.28 as a high school junior and was 10-1 as a senior while hitting .371. He was named All-Ohio. He was primarily a right fielder as a college freshman, batting .220/.283/.266 while going 1-1 with a 9.00 ERA, 15 walks and 20 strikeouts in 18 innings. He improved his offense (.304/.335/.494, 32 R in 45 G) and pitching (2-1, 2 Sv, 2.82) as a sophomore though he still had control issues (17 BB in 22 1/3 IP). His junior year, he was 1-4 with two saves and a 5.29 ERA while hitting .289/.316/.547 with 27 RBI in 31 games. As a senior, he continued to progress at the plate (.338/.364/.546, 27 R, 28 RBI in 34 G) and did well on the mound (3-3, 5 Sv, 3.92, 56 K in 39 IP, 26 BB). He was second in the Horizon League in saves. He was taken by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 30th round of that year's draft. The scout was Mike Farrell.

Pro Career[edit]

Pitching for the Helena Brewers (4-4, 1.53 in 20 G) and AZL Brewers (4.50 in 3 G) in 2010, Marzec was 4-4 with a 1.87 ERA in 23 relief appearances, striking out 46 batters in 33 2/3 innings. He did not allow a run in his first ten games as a pro. He also dazzled in the postseason (2 H, 6 K, 0 R in 5 1/3 IP).

In 2011, the hurler was 4-2 with 4 saves and a 1.69 ERA in 42 games (1 start) for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (3-2, 4 Sv, 1.77 in 32 G), Brevard County Manatees (1-0, 1.74 in 8 G) and Triple-A Nashville Sounds (0 R in80 3 IP), allowing a .194 average but walking 33 in 69 1/3 IP. He tied Jim Henderson for 9th in the Brewers chain in games pitched. In 2012, he was 2-3 with 2 saves and a 3.88 ERA in 33 games (2 starts) split between the Manatees (1-1, 7.53 in 10 G) and Huntsville Stars (1-2, 2 Sv, 2.45 in 23 G).

With Brevard County (1-0, 1.59 in 3 G) and Huntsville (5-0, 1.99 in 43 G) in 2013, he was 6-0 with a 1.95 ERA in 46 relief appearances (tied for 7th in the Brewers chain). With the Melbourne Aces, he was 1-2 with a 4.34 ERA and 28 strikeouts in 18 2/3 IP in the 2013-2014 Australian Baseball League.

He began 2014 with the Stars but also pitched for the Sounds, going 1-4 with a 3.03 ERA in 38 games between the teams. In 2015, between the Manatees and Biloxi Shuckers, he was 1-9 with a 5.80 ERA in 15 games (10 starts). He played for the Aguilas del Zulia in that year's Venezuelan Winter League.
