Biographical Information[edit]

Eric González peaked at AA and played for the Dominican national team.

He was signed by Chicago Cubs scouts Jose Estevez, Gian Guzman and Jose Serra in June 2014. [1] He debuted for the DSL Cubs that summer, hitting .254/.297/.322. Returning the next season, he batted .278/.333/.398, fielded .996 and threw out 48% of those who tried to steal. He split 2016 between the DSL Cubs 1 (.278/.333/.333 in 12 G) and AZL Cubs (1 for 10, BB). In 2017, he hit .178/.266/.238 for the DSL Cubs 1.

González split 2018 between the AZL Cubs 1 (.333/.345/.630, 11 RBI in 9 G), Eugene Emeralds (.178/.240/.311 in 14 G) and South Bend Cubs (4 for 12). In '19, he was with South Bend (.218/.293/.256 in 43 G), the Myrtle Beach Pelicans (.200/.231/.240 in 10 G) and Tennessee Smokies (1 for 3); he threw out 35% between the stops. He got into six games in the Dominican League in the winter of 2019-2020, going 1-for-13 for the Estrellas Orientales as their #5 catcher behind Christian Bethancourt, Austin Nola, Alberto Rosario and Luis Bernardo.

In the 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games, he backed up Carlos Paulino at catcher. He was retired by Jordan Lucas his first time up and got his first hit off Elchero Francisca. He was 4-for-9 with a walk and two runs, handling 25 chances error-free. [2] Remaining with them for the 2023 Pan American Games, he was their most-used backstop. He was 0-for-5, handled 10 chances error-free and threw out the only runner who tried to steal. [3]
