Biographical Information[edit]

Elliot Johnson has been a college baseball coach for three decades. Johnson's father was a cousin of Darrell Johnson.

Elliot Johnson was a pitcher and shortstop in college. He was on a team that finished 7th in the 1968 National Baseball Congress tournament. He later coached Pete Ladd and Brett Butler in the NBC in the late 1970s. He piloted Taylor University in 1979. He was head coach of Trevecca Nazarene University from 1980-1990, winning over 300 games. He was 15th in NAIA winning percentage in the 1980s. He was dismissed by Nazarene due to accreditation requirements that the school must have a doctorate in its physical education department. The school hired a P.H.D. to coach the baseball team.

Johnson coached Athletes in Action in 1984 and 1987, working with Wayne Edwards, Tim Mauser, Randy Tomlin and Greg McMichael.

Johnson was assistant coach at Middle Tennessee State University in 1992 while finishing his doctorate in physical education. From 1994-1999, he coached at LeTourneau University, posting winning records each year. He then was head coach of Olivet Nazarene University from 2000-2007, going 303-115 and making appearances in the 2002 NAIA College World Series and 2003 NAIA College World Series. His next stop was Southern Nazarene University, where he went 101-60 his first three years to bring his career record to 925-465.
