Biographical Information[edit]
Edmer Del Socorro began his athletic career in volleyball but switched to baseball due to his height. He helped the Philippines win a Gold Medal at the 2005 Southeast Asian Games. In the 2006 Intercontinental Cup, Del Socorro was 2 for 18 with a double and fielded .760 as the starting Philippines shortstop. He also pitched to 3 batters, with two walks, a sacrifice fly and no outs. He was also in the 2006 Asian Games.
Del Socorro was 1 for 3 in the 2007 Asian Championship, with a single off Ying-Chieh Lin, and handled all six chances at short without an error as the backup to Christian Canlas. He helped the Philippines win Silver in the 2007 Southeast Asian Games. He was back with the Philippines for the 2017 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers but did not play (as was the case with the most of the actual Filipinos on the team), as Filipino-American Brad Haynal got both games at catcher.
