Biographical Information[edit]
Edgar Cáceres played one year in the big leagues at age 31, seeing time in 55 games with the 1995 Kansas City Royals after having been a replacement player during spring training. He played mostly second base, although he also appeared at the other infield positions. In 117 at bats, he hit .239 with one home run. Edgar's long minor league career stretched from 1984-1997. He hit over .300 in 1985 in the rookie league, in 1992 in Double A, and in 1993 in Triple A. He stole 30 bases in 1987 in A ball. Lifetime, he hit .281 in 875 minor league games. He also played for many years in Venezuela for the Leones del Caracas, where he was known as "El Chino". In 1998 and 1999, he played in Korea.
After his playing days, he was a coach for Caracas and also managed the Rojas in the Venezuelan rookie league. He was also a minor league technical coach. In the US, he coached for the Charlotte Rangers in 2000 and managed the GCL Reds from 2001-2003 with a record of 92-86. In 2004, he was manager of the Potomac Cannons. He became manager of the Potomac Nationals of the Carolina League in 2006, taking over after Randy Knorr became Washington's bullpen coach.
