Biographical Information[edit]

Big Ed Miller played three seasons in the American League, having his best year with the Cleveland Indians in 1918.

Ed was born in Annville, PA, ninety miles from Philadelphia, PA. He began in the minors at age 20 with the Pottsville, PA team and the next year was with the Lancaster, PA team. After splitting 1911 between the Waterbury Champs and the Memphis Turtles, he spent most of 1912 with the Lowell Grays, hitting .237 and slugging .329, and then came to the big leagues with the St. Louis Browns at the end of the season. He played 13 games for the Browns.

In 1913 he was back with Lowell for the season, this time hitting .333 with 27 doubles. In September of that year he was picked by the Browns in the 1913 Rule V Draft and ended up playing for the Browns in 1914. He got into 41 games that season.

He was back in the minors until 1918, when he was in 33 games during the first half of the season for the Cleveland Indians. Although this was his strongest year with the bat in the big leagues, he only hit .229 with 3 RBIs. He went back to the minors and played there through 1927. In 1928 he managed the Waynesboro Red Birds.

During his time in the big leagues, Ed was mostly played first base, but also appeared at all other positions except pitcher, catcher and center fielder.
