Biographical Information[edit]
Ed Crosby was a left-handed hitting infielder with little power who played parts of six big league seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals, Cincinnati Reds, and Cleveland Indians between 1970 and 1976. A second round pick by the Cardinals in 1969, he was already in the majors by 1970 and saw his most action in 1972, working as a frequently used infield backup behind Dal Maxvill, Joe Torre, and Ted Sizemore. He hit .253 in limited playing time in 1970, but never hit better than .234 again (except for going 1-for-2 in two games with the Indians in 1976). Since he never hit a major league home run and stole all of one base, only his versatility kept him (albeit briefly) afloat in the big leagues.
Ed is the father of Bobby Crosby. Another son, Blake, was drafted by the Oakland A's in 2009 out of Sacramento State. Bobby is currently a minor league manager while Blake is a crosschecker for the Toronto Blue Jays. Ed was a high school teammate of Bobby Grich.
